Studio Gels- Practitioners.

Ryan McGinley

Born October 17, 1977.
Ryan is an American photographer living in New York who began taking photographs in 1998. Ryan is one of the youngest photographers to have his own show at the Whitney Museum of American art. In 2003 Ryan was named photographer of the year by American photo magazine.

In this photograph i believe Ryan has put coloured gels over his lens to give that Orange and red ombre affect, this is because the whole photo itself has that affect its not made by lights. This photograph gives me a summer feel because its warm and obviously at the beach.

I really love what he has done in these two photographs and how he has incorporated smoke! Such an amazing effect and i will certainly try this out. Contrast between warm and cool is really lovely. Gives me a sense of freedom. Bit like hippies dancing around the fire back in the flower power days.

Tyler Sheilds

Born April 29, 1982. Tyler is an American photographer and professional skater. I chose Tyler because he is one of my favourite Photographers. And he just so happened to use studio gels in his photo series 'Submerged' and this is also one of my favourite photo series.

Love this photo so much, The purple lights up the white gown so beautifully. And the fact that she is underwater is just 10  times more stunning. He has captured the motion perfectly. you can see the lighting beaming from above her which is really quite beautiful.

Another awesome shot! You can actually see where the lights are coming from which is really quite cool because its like they are dancing on a stage. Even thought you can clearly see they are under water. I really like the green patterns of the water ripples on the floor of the pool. Such a stunning image.
