Week 5 Practitioner- Light

Jeff Wall

Born September 29, 1946. Jeff Wall is a Canadian photographer. Jeff produces Large scale photographs which means his photographs are very detailed. Jeff wall produced no art until 1977 where he created his first backlit photo transperancies. Jeff creates scenes that uses 'natural beauty, urban decay and postmodern and industrial featurelessness as the backdrops' - Wikipedia. I really love Jeff Walls use of studio light, he makes it look warm and natural.

Here Jeff has given the impression that it is night time in. For him to do this he has made the lighting quite dim just like our everyday lights. i love how he has used the light above the oven. I believe he has a light over hanging the scene to give the effect of household lights.

In this photograph im given the impression that it is daytime. For this affect Jeff could have lights outside the window shining through to make it look overexposed and sunny, this also created shadows in the room. He also has used a light to shine on the models from the right to give the affect of a normal household light. i can tell this because of the shadow on the guys arm from the shaver cord.
